Countdown Timer
Set a duration for anything — a break, a talk, a recipe, a game — and watch the bar run down to a chime when your time is up.

How to use this timer
- Set the duration. Type the minutes and seconds yourself, or tap a preset — 1, 3, 5, 10 or 25 minutes.
- Press Start. The countdown begins at once, the progress bar fills up, and the browser tab title shows the time left.
- Pause or reset. Pause holds the remaining time exactly where it is; Reset puts the full duration back on the clock.
- Wait for the chime. At zero the timer stops, counts the round and is ready to start again.
Useful information
A countdown does one useful thing: it turns "in a bit" into a number. Cooking, exercising, revising, taking a break, keeping a meeting to time — all of them get easier when the deadline is visible instead of remembered.
Accurate even in the background
The timer stores the moment it should end rather than counting ticks, so a tab that the browser throttles does not lose seconds. Switch away, come back, and the display has caught up with real time. The trade-off is the usual one for a static site: it only runs while this page is open, and there is no push notification — the chime is your signal.
Presets and custom lengths
The presets cover the lengths people reach for most: a one-minute or three-minute break, five or ten minutes for a task, twenty-five minutes for a work block. Anything else is a pair of number fields — one second up to ten hours.
Which timer should you use?
Use the Stopwatch when you want to measure how long something takes rather than limit it, the Study Timer for a single focus block with a session counter, or the Pomodoro Timer for automatic work-and-break cycles.
Privacy: the duration, the end time and the counter live only in this tab — nothing is saved or uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How does the countdown timer work?
Enter minutes and seconds or tap a preset, press Start, and the timer counts down to zero with a progress bar filling as it runs. A chime plays when the time is up.
What is the longest countdown I can run?
Anywhere from one second up to ten hours. Both fields stay editable while the timer is idle, and Reset always returns the full duration you set.
Does it keep counting if I switch tabs?
Yes. The end time is stored as a timestamp rather than ticked second by second, so a throttled background tab stays accurate — the display catches up when you come back.
Can I pause a countdown?
Yes. Pause freezes the remaining time exactly where it is and Start resumes from that point. Reset puts the full duration back on the clock.
Is anything saved or uploaded?
No. The timer runs entirely in this tab: nothing is stored or sent anywhere, and there is no notification once you close the page.
