Press Start to begin — Lap records a split.

How to use this stopwatch

  1. Press Start. The clock begins immediately and shows minutes, seconds and hundredths.
  2. Record laps. Tap Lap at every split — each one is listed with its own time and the gap since the previous lap, newest first.
  3. Pause and resume whenever you need to. The elapsed time holds exactly where it was and continues from there.
  4. Reset when you are done: the display goes back to zero and every lap is cleared.

Useful information

A stopwatch is the simplest timing tool there is — start, stop, read the number. What makes it useful is precision you can trust and laps you can compare, whether you are checking a sprint, a boiler repair, a cooking time or how long a presentation really runs.

Time kept by the clock, not the frame counter

Every reading is calculated from timestamps rather than counting how many times the screen refreshed. That matters in two common cases: a background tab that the browser slows down still reports the correct time when you come back, and a busy or low-powered device cannot make the stopwatch drift.

Laps and splits

A lap records the total elapsed time at the moment you press it; the bracketed figure is the split — the gap since the previous lap. Splits are what actually tell you whether a run was faster than the last one, because a total time always grows while a split can shrink.

Against the other timers

The stopwatch counts up with no target. If you want a fixed duration to run out with a chime, use the Countdown Timer; for study blocks and automatic breaks, the Pomodoro Timer.

Privacy: your times stay in this tab. Refresh the page and the laps are gone — nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate is the stopwatch?

It measures against your device clock instead of counting ticks, and shows hundredths of a second. If the browser throttles the tab in the background, the display catches up the moment you return — no time is lost.

How do lap times work?

Press Lap while the stopwatch runs to record the current split. Each lap shows its own time and, in brackets, the gap since the previous lap. The most recent lap is listed first.

Can I pause and resume?

Yes. Pause holds the exact elapsed time and Resume continues from there without losing a hundredth of a second. Reset returns the display to zero and clears every lap.

Does it keep timing in the background?

The stopwatch keeps counting while you are on another tab, because it is based on timestamps rather than rendered frames. It only works while this page is open — there is no notification when you come back.

Are my times stored anywhere?

No. Elapsed time and laps live only in this tab and disappear when you refresh or close the page — nothing is saved, uploaded or logged.
